So I’m writing this as someone who doesn’t follow tennis as closely/doesnt understand how the wildcard system works. I think if she’s performed at a high level during the year in other tournaments and is still winning, that’s great! But giving her that spot just because they’re older and might not be able to go the entire stretch of qualifying matches is kind of wild. I’m also against the argument of “the younger players can wait their turn” because that discredits all of their work. In every pro sport everyone is one injury away from being forced to sit for long periods of time or even forced retirement. Time is always of the essence. That’s like saying Tiger shouldn’t have to play in a qualifying round because he’s Tiger. We’ve all loved seeing him, and he’s made dramatic strides for the black community in golf, but he’s still gotta prove he’s in playing shape. (Sorry for the rant 😂)
💯 yes. As long as we can watch her I want to. Wawrinka and Monfils and Kvitova and Pavlyuchenkova. Love them all.
